How long have you worked in law enforcement? Since 1987

Why did you become an SRO?
To build positive Law Enforcement relationships with students.

What school/school district do you currently serve?
Cabot Public School District.

What do you find most challenging about working on a school campus?
Convincing the students that we as Law Enforcement are on campus to mentor them rather than arrest them when possible.

What do you find most rewarding about working on a school campus?
When students bring you a card or letter saying thank you for taking time with them throughout the year.

What has surprised you the most about working with kids?
Students are mostly looking for someone to listen to them.

Are there any programs/techniques that you feel have been helpful and effective in creating a safe learning environment?
The ALERRT/CRASE training provides the strategy to survive an active shooter event. (Avoid, Deny, Defend )

What advice would you give to a first-year SRO?
Be a mentor to the students, show the students we care about them and police officers are their friend.

What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t working?
Fishing and Camping.

If you weren’t a police officer, what would you be doing instead?
Driving 18 wheelers.
