Due to recent acts of school violence, the state of Arkansas has seen a steady increase in school districts utilizing school resource officers (SROs) on their campuses. SROs serve unique roles in law enforcement as they also perform as teachers, mentors and counselors on the school campus. This course is designed to provide newly appointed school resource officers with the knowledge and skills they need to effectively understand and perform these important roles. Participants will gain a working knowledge of the school resource officer triad concept and how to establish a lasting partnership with the schools. In addition to classroom instruction, students will learn how to develop and present lesson plans as if they were instructing in a classroom setting.
