School Resource Officer II (Intermediate)
This intermediate-level, 3-day, in-person course builds on core School Resource Officer (SRO) training by developing the educator component of the SRO role — the skills needed to design and deliver effective safety education to K-12 students. Participants also receive specialized instruction from ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) on incident management and complete certification to independently deliver CRASE training within their own districts.
Course content:
- Days 1–2 (morning): Curriculum Development for School Safety Education. SROs often serve as their school’s primary safety educator. This segment builds practical skills for creating and delivering age-appropriate safety curriculum for K-12 audiences — identifying learning objectives, selecting effective teaching tools, and structuring lessons that resonate with students. The segment culminates in each participant presenting a developed lesson to peers, with feedback from classmates and instructors in a collaborative setting.
- Day 2 (afternoon): ALERRT Incident Management Overview. A 4-hour session delivered by ALERRT covering incident management principles, including a detailed debrief and analysis of the Uvalde response and a review of the Chain of Survival framework. This session serves as a foundational lead-in to ALERRT’s standalone SRO Active Attack Response Course.
- Day 3: CRASE Train-the-Trainer Certification. Participants complete the ALERRT Train-the-Trainer course for CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events). Upon successful completion, they are certified to deliver CRASE training independently to students, staff, and community members within their own school districts.
