SRO Phil Blaylock and the ASSA Receive National Recognition
Arkansas was well represented at the 2017 National School Safety Conference that was recently held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Conducted each year by the School Safety Advocacy Council, the Conference recognizes individuals and organizations that are making significant contributions in the effort to keep our Nation’s schools safe.
Officer Phil Blaylock of the Morrilton Police Department was named 2017 SRO of the Year and received a National School Safety Award. Officer Blaylock has gained a national following for his cop car karaoke, which allows students in South Conway County schools to join Officer Blaylock in his police cruiser for a karaoke jam session. Officer Blaylock has worked in law enforcement for 21 years but chose to serve as an SRO because of his love for working with kids and a desire to make a difference in their lives. We are very proud of his well-deserved recognition.
In addition, the Arkansas Safe Schools Association (ASSA) won a 2017 Presidential Citation for their outstanding contribution to the 2017 National School Safety Conference and school safety in Arkansas. The ASSA is a key sponsor of an annual Arkansas Safe Schools Conference. Other key sponsors of this conference include the Criminal Justice Institute, the Arkansas Department of Education, the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office and the Arkansas Department of Human Services. Attendees of this conference include school resource officers and school administrators, teachers, counselors and nurses from across the state.
Congratulations to both Officer Blaylock and the Arkansas Safe Schools Association!
